Congratulations to Geoffrey Hinton, recipient of the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics.
Professor Emeritus at the University of Toronto, Hinton received the Prize jointly with John Hopfield “for foundational discoveries and inventions that enable machine learning with artificial neural networks.”
Hinton has received extensive recognition for his role in revolutionizing AI, including the Killam Prize in 2012 in the Engineering category. In his interview with CBC today, he stated: “It’s going to be fantastic, which is why progress is not going to be stopped. I don’t think we can hit a pause button AI because there’s so many enormous benefits from it. But we really need to worry about how to keep it under control.”
