Les propri\u00e9t\u00e9s collectives de la \u00ab\u00a0mati\u00e8re nucl\u00e9aire\u00a0\u00bb et son comportement \u00e0 des temp\u00e9ratures \u00e9lev\u00e9es et \u00e0 de fortes densit\u00e9s ne sont cependant pas encore bien connus. Y a-t-il une phase de la mati\u00e8re nucl\u00e9aire o\u00f9 les constituants de base de toute la mati\u00e8re \u00e0 forte interaction avec les quarks et les gluons se manifestent?<\/p>\n<p>En \u00e9tudiant les collisions de noyaux \u00e0 de hautes \u00e9nergies, nous pouvons maintenant r\u00e9pondre \u00ab\u00a0oui\u00a0\u00bb et \u00a0esp\u00e9rer pouvoir caract\u00e9riser ce \u00ab\u00a0plasma quark-gluon\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0: la substance qui s\u2019est propag\u00e9e dans l\u2019univers quelques microsecondes apr\u00e8s le\u00a0Big\u00a0Bang.<\/p>\n<p>En utilisant les outils modernes de la physique th\u00e9orique de l\u2019interaction forte, nous commen\u00e7ons tout juste \u00e0 comprendre \u00e0 quel point ce plasma quark-gluon est chaud et dense, et comment il r\u00e9agit aux variations de pression, par exemple.<\/p>\n<p>En simulant les collisions qui se produisent dans le Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC, situ\u00e9 au Laboratoire national de Brookhaven [NY]) et au Grand collisionneur de hadrons (LHC) (situ\u00e9 au CERN \u00e0 Gen\u00e8ve) avec la dynamique des fluides relativistes, notre groupe peut d\u00e9j\u00e0 conclure que le plasma quark-gluon a des propri\u00e9t\u00e9s diff\u00e9rentes de toute autre substance connue. De plus, les r\u00e9centes analyses th\u00e9oriques de r\u00e9sultats \u00e0 l\u2019aide de sondes p\u00e9n\u00e9trantes comme les photons et les jets \u00e9nergiques r\u00e9v\u00e8lent le degr\u00e9 d\u2019opacit\u00e9 de ce plasma. L\u2019int\u00e9gration de tout notre savoir sur la fa\u00e7on dont le plasma r\u00e9agit aux stimuli des diff\u00e9rentes \u00e9nergies orientera notre compr\u00e9hension globale des autres syst\u00e8mes fortement coupl\u00e9s dans la nature.
