Et un sur quatre en meurt. Bien des m\u00e9dicaments contre le cancer ont am\u00e9lior\u00e9 les chances des patients, mais ceux-ci doivent composer avec de graves effets secondaires et d\u00e9veloppent souvent une r\u00e9sistance au traitement. C\u2019est particuli\u00e8rement vrai dans le cas du cancer du sein triple n\u00e9gatif (CSTN), pour lequel il n\u2019existe aucun traitement cibl\u00e9 et approuv\u00e9 par la FDA. Le projet vise \u00e0 mettre au point des structures \u00e0 partir de l\u2019ADN pour acheminer des m\u00e9dicaments de chimioth\u00e9rapie vers les cellules canc\u00e9reuses sans qu\u2019ils p\u00e9n\u00e8trent dans les cellules saines. Ces structures sont biod\u00e9gradables, non toxiques et r\u00e9agissent aux tumeurs de mani\u00e8re s\u00e9lective.<\/p>\n<p>Pendant les deux ann\u00e9es que durera sa bourse de recherche Killam, la Dre Hanadi Sleiman s\u2019efforcera d\u2019optimiser les v\u00e9hicules en question afin d\u2019\u00e9liminer les effets secondaires toxiques de la chimioth\u00e9rapie contre le cancer, de contourner la r\u00e9sistance aux m\u00e9dicaments et d\u2019am\u00e9liorer radicalement la qualit\u00e9 de vie des patientes atteintes de CSTN.<\/p>\n<p>Photo: Studio Iris
