The Neuro (Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital)

Founded in 1934, The Neuro has grown into a world renowned academic medical centre dedicated to neuroscience.  Trainees for brain research in Canada come from over 60 countries.

As Montreal was long the financial epicentre of Canada, Izaak Walton Killam had a residence in that city and his offices were located on James Street.  When Mrs. Killam fell ill she would specifically request nurses trained at The Neuro to see to her care.  For this reason The Neuro received a portion of the Killam bequest.

The Neuro hosts regularly the Killam Seminar Series and brings outstanding international scholars and researchers to share their knowledge. In addition, in tribute to Mrs. Killam’s gift The Neuro has hosted the Dorothy J. Killam Lecture since 2004, which recognizes women in academia and science.
