The 2025 Killam NRC Paul Corkum Fellows are making outstanding contributions to research in Canada
Ottawa May 21, 2025 – The Killam Trusts are pleased to announce the recipients of the inaugural Killam NRC Paul Corkum Fellowships, which provide opportunities for collaboration between distinguished scholars and NRC researchers.
“The National Research Council of Canada is pleased to celebrate the first-ever Killam NRC Paul Corkum Fellows and their groundbreaking research and contributions to knowledge in Canada,” said Mitch Davies, President, National Research Council of Canada. “These fellows will build on Dr. Corkum’s legacy of scientific excellence and leadership, pursuing breakthroughs and innovation through strong partnerships.”

Killam NRC Paul Corkum Fellowships
The Killam NRC Paul Corkum Fellowships support advanced study and research excellence by creating opportunities for Canadian and international scholars to partner with NRC researchers, leverage NRC facilities and resources, and share knowledge through new collaborations. The program promotes discovery and innovation through shared exploration, work and growth.
The Killam NRC Paul Corkum Fellowships provide release time from employment for national and international scholars who have demonstrated outstanding research ability and are proposing collaborative research with an NRC researcher. Fellowships are valued at $100,000 CAD per year in the form of a grant that is paid to the institution of each Fellow to cover release time. An additional grant of up to $50,000 CAD is available to accommodate travel and knowledge dissemination costs of the Fellow.

Andrew Tanentzap, Trent University and Adam Bergren, Quantum and Nanotechnologies Research Centre, NRC; Project: Developing disruptive environmental monitoring technology to transform water quality monitoring.
Linda Nazar, University of Waterloo and Yaser Abu-Lebdeh, Clean Energy Innovation Research Centre, NRC; Project: Exploring the use of nickel in lithium-ion battery technology to reduce costs of battery production.
