Studying cognitive psychology, Faria’s ultimate goal is to translate her research into empirically sound pedagogical techniques that instructors and students can implement in classrooms and in study sessions, respectively, to promote the retention of acquired knowledge.
Faria’s research is unique both at theoretical and applied levels—she develops methods that reflect evidence-based teaching by applying an understanding of cognitive development from basic science to education.
“I am honoured to be working at the University of Alberta with extremely talented researchers who provide me with an intellectual environment to pursue daunting problems in cognitive science at the highest levels of scientific integrity and rigour. I am likewise honoured to be named a Killam laureate, and to be recognized as a promising researcher who will examine new breakthroughs and discoveries in both cognition and education fields.“
