Perri is a student under the supervision of Dr. Christine Chambers at Dalhousie. She was inspired to undertake her studies after volunteering at a children’s hospice, working directly with children suffering from life-threatening illnesses. The experience of these children and their families inspired Perri to pursue a career where she can make an impact psychosocially in the lives of children with pain.
Dalhousie was an obvious choice based on the university’s reputation for strong research and clinical training. In addition, Dalhousie University and the IWK Health Centre are home to the Centre for Pediatric Pain Research, an international leader in the study of children’s pain. Studying at Dalhousie University and the Centre for Pediatric Pain research will provide Perri with the greatest opportunity to conduct innovative and meaningful research in pediatric pain and acquire the skills needed to work with children in clinical settings
As a Killam laureate Perri joins a network of impressive scientists and scholars. In addition her work at the IWK Health Centre, also named for Izaak Walton Killam, provides an additional Killam connection, unique to Halifax.
